Celebrating a Legacy of Innovation and Success

Vito Rugani, the legendary founder and part owner of Green Way Farms and Rugani Juice, was a stalwart in the agricultural industry. Born in Johannesburg, Vito hailed from a long line of vegetable farmers, tracing his family’s farming roots back to 1889. As a fourth-generation South African farmer, Vito’s deep connection to the land and his unwavering commitment to excellence propelled him to extraordinary heights of success.

From Humble Beginnings to Agricultural Titans

Despite humble beginnings, Vito Rugani’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of perseverance and determination. In the early 1990s, Vito, along with his partner Vincent Sequeira, embarked on a remarkable journey that would ultimately establish them as South Africa’s largest carrot producers.

Beginning with a modest 20-hectare mixed vegetable farm, Vito and Vincent’s operation rapidly expanded to encompass 1 600ha in Tarlton and 600ha in the Waterberg, which are in production eight months and four months of the year respectively. This ensures year-round production of consistent quality, making Greenway Farms the continent’s largest carrot grower. They also produces 40% of Southern Africa’s carrots.

A Legacy of Innovation and Growth

A pivotal moment for Green Way Farms came when Vito and Vincent visited carrot farmers in Australia, gaining invaluable insights into financial management and labor utilization. Inspired by their experiences abroad, they made the strategic decision to focus exclusively on carrot production, a move that would revolutionize the South African agricultural landscape. Green Way Farms became synonymous with innovation, pioneering the introduction of hydro-cooled carrots and setting new standards for quality and efficiency.
