About The Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO):

Advancing the Interests of South African Red Meat Producers

In a significant move to represent and advance the interests of commercial red meat producers in South Africa, the Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO) has positioned itself as a pivotal service organisation. Operating independently, the RPO’s primary aim is to dynamically promote the sustainability and profitability of the red meat industry within the nation. This objective is being actively pursued through strategic bargaining and consultations with the government and various other organisations. These efforts are directed not only towards benefiting local red meat producers but also towards making an impact on the international stage.

Collaboration with the Protein Research Foundation (PRF)

Integral to the RPO’s mission is its partnership with the Protein Research Foundation (PRF). The PRF is dedicated to reducing reliance on imported protein for animal consumption by focusing on the development of local protein sources. This initiative is supported through substantial funding for research and the transfer of technology.

Focus on Research and Local Protein Development

Research under the PRF’s auspices is extensively focused on exploring suitable crops, oil seeds, fish meal, and other protein sources. Additionally, the application and utilisation of these sources are tailored to meet the specific needs of the most crucial fish, animal, and poultry species in the South African market.

Through these concerted efforts, the RPO and PRF are working towards a future where the red meat industry in South Africa is not only sustainable and profitable but also self-reliant in terms of protein resources.
